The maintenance of aromatic herbs

First of all, to promote the growth of your plants , you will have to sow your seeds or plant your Cultivation Clods in a suitable container. Depending on the container you have chosen, it will be necessary to ensure that the depth of it is sufficient for the roots of the plants. Indeed, some plants like mint are more invasive than others and need pots at least 30 centimeters deep to grow properly.

To carry out its growth, each aromatic plant has particular needs for water and natural light . If you are a beginner in gardening, we advise you to plant each herb in a different container to avoid overwatering plants that cannot tolerate humidity. However, you can plant herbs together that have the same water and sun needs.

We invite you to discover our maintenance tips for our four favorite herbs: Green Mint, Great Green Basil, Flat Parsley and Common Chives !

1. Spearmint to grow indoors

Spearmint is a rather invasive plant and it is therefore advisable to grow it alone in a pot. It will be necessary to take care of weeding if necessary and to cut the crops regularly.

To grow properly, this plant requires room temperature and therefore very easy to grow indoors. It will have to be placed in a semi-shaded place without forgetting to expose it a few times to the sun. Regarding its water needs, you will have to keep the Motte always moist since the Spearmint particularly appreciates humidity.

2. Big green basil

Grand Vert Basil needs more exposure to natural light compared to Spearmint. It is advisable to place it on a window sill, especially in winter, so that it is exposed to the sun for at least 6 hours every day. It will be necessary to ensure that it is at least 15°C so that the plant can grow properly.

The Grand Vert Basil needs a lot of water. It will be necessary to think of watering it regularly. If the leaves of the Basil begin to wither, then it will be imperative to give it water!

3. Flat-leaf parsley to maintain indoors

Flat Parsley has special needs during its germination phase. It should be exposed to the sun while enjoying a temperature of around 15°C. During this phase, it will be important to keep the soil moist so that it can grow properly.

After this phase, Flat Parsley requires little maintenance. It tolerates higher temperatures and will only need occasional watering.

4. Common chive maintenance

Common Chives , like Flat Parsley, have different needs during their germination phase. During this one, it will be necessary to avoid exposing it directly to the sun because this plant is very fragile. For watering, it will be necessary to keep the Motte moist and therefore to water it regularly.

Once adult, the Common Chive can be exposed to the sun. It should be watered only when the root ball becomes dry because it no longer appreciates humidity.

For all these varieties, you can harvest your first crops a few weeks after planting them and thus quickly enjoy fresh aromatic herbs in your dishes ! For additional opinions and advice, find our maintenance tips and our recipes on our blog!
